In May 2024, Vytal Global and OMR announced a groundbreaking partnership, which was implemented at the OMR Festival 2024 in Hamburg. The goal of this collaboration was to present innovative reusable concepts for large-scale events while focusing on technological innovations and process optimizations.
A key component of the pilot project was the introduction of a fully digital return wall for reusable containers. Visitors to Food Hall B6 were able to return their used containers at two specially designated return stations in a contactless and digital manner. The process was handled via an NFC wristband, seamlessly integrated into the existing payment system of GET (Global Event Technologies). This solution significantly reduced wait times and eliminated the need for cash transactions.
The digital return wall completely automated the process of returning reusable containers. Deposit refunds were processed without staff intervention, not only increasing efficiency but also reducing labor costs. Additionally, it eliminated risks associated with cash handling, making the process safer for both event organizers and guests.
Vytal’s proprietary software enabled secure tracking of reusable containers throughout the entire value chain. By combining QR codes and smart labels, all products were reliably recorded. Event organizers benefited from precise and secure logistics, as well as hygiene verification through detailed cleaning protocols for each container. Vytal Events & Entertainment Solutions provided a full-service solution, covering everything from delivery and distribution to return and cleaning of reusable containers.
The partnership between Vytal Global and OMR demonstrates how technological innovations and process optimizations can effectively integrate sustainable reusable concepts into large-scale events. The digital return wall and automated deposit refund system set new standards for the event industry, proving that sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand.
