Press Release (Vytal Global)

Reusable Software Provider Vytal Global Announces Groundbreaking Partnership with PepsiCo in the Away-From-Home Sector and Launches Entry into the Reusable Event Industry at This Year’s INTERNORGA

Cologne, March 8, 2024 – Vytal Global, a leading reusable packaging software provider, and PepsiCo, one of the world's largest food and beverage manufacturers, are joining forces to introduce the first PepsiCo reusable cup with dual-tracking technology at this year’s INTERNORGA. This innovation aims to enhance sustainable customer engagement and improve logistics efficiency. Additionally, Vytal is announcing its entry into the event industry, accompanied by several technological innovations at its trade fair booth.

Under the theme “MORE THAN A CUP”, Vytal will showcase multiple reusable technology innovations at INTERNORGA and introduce its digital reusable solutions to the event and entertainment industry.

Expansion into the Event Market

To underscore its commitment to the event industry, Vytal recently founded Vytal Events & Entertainment Solutions, a 100% subsidiary dedicated to reusable solutions for events. The company has already made a strong start to the year by equipping several event venues with reusable packaging during Berlinale 2024, offering a combination of software solutions and logistics services.

"With our smart technology combined with logistics and washing services, we are addressing a critical need in the industry. Event organizers can save costs, improve efficiency, and create new customer engagement opportunities," says Dr. Tim Breker, co-founder and CEO of Vytal.

Technological Innovations for Convenience & Efficiency

Vytal is simplifying the entire reusable value chain, from distribution to return, to make the process easier and more cost-effective for businesses and guests alike. Some key innovations include:

  • Tap2Borrow Function: Customers can now borrow reusable containers not only via the Vytal app but also with their credit or debit card.
  • Automated Cup Dispenser: This solution enables self-service dispensing of reusable cups in cafeterias or canteens, eliminating the need for staff.
  • Smart Return System: A completely automated return process, requiring no additional actions from the user, allows customers to simply drop off used containers, which are then automatically registered as returned.

The Game-Changer: The Vytal-Pepsi Cup

The Vytal-Pepsi Cup is a smart reusable cup designed to make reuse not only easy but highly interactive. It features:

  • A unique QR code for customer interaction.
  • An RFID tag for scalable, operational logistics tracking.

The reusable cup will be introduced through PepsiCo’s Quick-Service Restaurant (QSR) partners and major events across Germany, setting new industry standards. Over the next two years, 100,000 branded PepsiCo cups will be rolled out across the market.

"This partnership reinforces our ongoing commitment to the pep+ agenda while also supporting our business goals," says Torben Nielsen, Managing Director of PepsiCo DACH. "By partnering with Vytal, we are strengthening our focus on the away-from-home segment and driving meaningful changes that effectively minimize plastic waste."

"For reuse to truly make a difference in protecting ecosystems, it must work at scale. This requires real value for end customers and an innovative, scalable approach," adds Dr. Josephine Kreische, Managing Director of Vytal. "Our partnership with PepsiCo enables exactly that and opens up entirely new opportunities for QSRs, as well as the event and entertainment industry."

The Vytal-Pepsi Cup is the first smart, branded, and recyclable reusable cup that not only reduces waste and optimizes logistics but also enhances customer experiences by linking rewards and interactive engagement to its use. With this groundbreaking innovation, both companies aim to convert businesses still using disposable cups to a sustainable reusable system.

A Milestone for Innovation & Sustainability

By launching the Vytal-Pepsi Cup, along with new dispensing and return solutions and entering the event and entertainment industry, Vytal and PepsiCo are taking another significant step toward innovation and environmental protection. This initiative provides strong incentives for all stakeholders to participate in this forward-thinking movement.
